Tilting the Basin bridges the divide between Northern and Southern Nevada communities and provides a wide-ranging overview and understanding of the most accomplished work being created by more than thirty artists living and working in Nevada today. The show premiered in Northern Nevada, and traveled to Las Vegas in a pop-up museum space.
One piece of art couldn’t represent all the styles of work in the show, so a type treatment was designed to be the anchor of all of the marketing materials. The inspiration came from the bright lights and neon that many tourists think when you mention "Nevada," and the marriage of North and South became a mirrored pattern of state.
The exhibition title wall became the heart and soul of the the project. The letters were fabricated out of Plexiglas, and stand off the wall 3 inches to embody a contemporary version of the neon of Nevada.
In the spring of 2017 the show traveled to Las Vegas in the form of a pop-up museum. The exhibition’s venue was a raw warehouse space, off the beaten path with no traditional signage or branding. The large roll-up doors became perfect billboards to draw the traffic and visitors attention.
